The master arrives and I almost get killed by a stupid horse.

The Mr. Edward Fairfax Rochester arrives at Thornfield at last! I was inadvertently the first to meet him. He rode past me on my way to mail a letter, and his horse slipped on a patch of ice. (Rochester now has a sprained ankle (nothing serious, none of you worry).)

I decided I wanted to be useful to someone, and, not realizing who he was, went up and offered my services. He told me to get his horse.

This is basically what the thing looked like. Oh, and here's the link: http://imageevent.com/firesat/strangedaysstrangeskies?p=362&n=1&m=-1&c=4&l=0&w=4&s=0&z=3

It didn’t go well.

He finally just had me help him up and walk him over to said horse. He asked my name and where I came from, without revealing anything about himself, and we both went our separate directions. It wasn’t until I returned to Thornfield that I realized that he way my employer! Very sneaky of him.

The transition

I’ve had a few days at Thornfield, and it is a vast improvement over Lowood. The little girl I’m teaching is called Adele. She’s a sweetheart. Not exactly brilliant, but she has a good temper and picks things up fast enough. The biggest blessing is Mrs. Fairfax. She’s the housekeeper. The first day, I thought she was the mistress of the house. Now that I know, it makes me feel much more comfortable. We are equals, she and I, and I feel that I can be at peace with myself. The real master of the house apparently rarely visits Thornfield, so who knows when I’ll actually meet my employer. But I’m not bothered. It’s lovely the way it is.

Success! I received a response!

I am to be a governess at Thornfield. I will have one pupil, and I am to leave Lowood in a few days! See ya later, suckers!

Leaving

Today, I sent out an advertisement, to see if I could get hired as a governess somewhere. I’m a little worried about not getting hired. I don’t think I can stand teaching at Lowood another minute!

It took me forever to write up the ad. I can’t remember the last time I worked so hard. It's rough trying to talk yourself up!
